Leigh entered the contest for The Young Writers' Yearbook. The librarian asked Leigh if he had written a story for the contest because the stories were due the next day. The librarian told him that he had 24hrs. to get busy because he knew Leigh wanted to meet a famous author.
Leigh decided the " The Ten Foot Wax Man" story did not work out for him. He started a story on the day he went on the truck with his dad. He named the story "A Day On Dad's Rig" and became honorable mention in the contest. The teacher found out that the girl that came in 2nd place copied her poem out of a book and asked Leigh if he want to take her place in the contest.
